Making a Brain That Makes Its Universe - It Turns Out the Brain is a Maker

Henry Markram, the director of the Blue Brain project at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland explains how his team has modelled the neocortex of the mammalian brain in software on a supercomputer. He's testing the theory that the brain projects its own reality bubble around itself. In short, the brain might be the ultimate maker.

In the near future the team will model a full rat brain and download it into a rat robot to see how it learns and behaves in the real world. Markram hopes to have a functioning simulation of a human brain in a decade.
